Jordan is tiny, poor, and it stinks. Give it up people!

It is important for people to have national pride. It forms their identity and it announces to the world their allegiance to a nation. Also, it gives them a sense of belonging. However, Jordanians go too far in many ways.

I mean the country is tiny, poor, and if you have been to Zarqa, it stinks!

Jordan is so tiny that you can drive from extreme north (Ramtha) to extreme south (Aqaba) in about 4 hours; less if you don't count a couple of check points and peoples' urge to take breaks as if they're driving the whole length of Hwy 80.  I remember those school trips we took to Aqaba in the early 90's, when, at arrival, students would race to the main post office to call home and yell at the top of their lungs that everything is OK and they arrived safely. I did that too. But to think of it, you just saw your family three hours ago. Is it necessary to call them right away as if you flew across the atlantic. Give it a rest. they are probably happy they got you out of the house.

And, don't get me started on the Dead Sea. On a visit to Jordan I asked if anybody wanted to go the Dead Sea "now." The look on their faces was like a little kid being told there is no Santa, you're adopted, or "let's go to the dentist."

Let's leave it to the weekend, they would say after the shocking looks on their faces have subsided. Have in mind that the Dead Sea is less than 30 minutes away from Amman. A 30 minutes trip does not require the devotion of a whole weekend.

I guess my family's idea of a trip is waking up at 4am, cook magloubeh and sfee7a, and ride donkeys and camels until we reach El Ghour in time for lunch, then pack up and head back.

Jordan is so poor, thanks to الحكومة الرشيدة و المسؤولين الكفوئين . Think about it. I remember paying 3.15 JDs ($5) tuition for a whole year of public schools' education. Textbooks included. You might say that this cost is more expensive than that of US public schools, which are free. But, when your family "qualifies for a discount" from that 3.15, then you're poor living in a poor country.

Jordan stinks so bad. I had the unfortunate experience of living in the stinkiest parts of the of the stinkiest city. I lived in the area surrounding the only refinery in the country. Aside form the dreadfully polluted air, the daily, very loud 7am horn sound, and the slippery and dangerous streets going in and out of the refinery and it's neighbour: King Hussein electric station, Aside from all that is محطة السمرا للتنقية. Imagine those hot summer nights' breeze bringing you the pungent aroma of what used to be the above mgloubeh!

I also had to go through the Zarqa transportation complex. Anybody who was ever courageous enough (or had no other option) to cross into the complex on a daily bases deserves وسام الاستقلال من الدرجة الاولى more than those disappearing ambassadors

There you have it. Jordan first or not, sometimes you have to sit back and take a look at your country and stop electing your second cousin's uncle's brother in law to the parliament and elect somebody who has the guts to demand change!

Agree man, but you said it in the first place, we Jordanians are so proud that we ignore all these technicalities, and as every other Jordanian, it's difficlut to say other than that, but think of it this way, it's better than most of the neighouring countries, and it's even better than most of the Arab Countries (Excluding Tunis in my opinion, that country is just amazing). So, if you wanted to compare with western Hemisphere countries, it'll be a tough comparison for all middle east countries.

hey Hamede. Yes it is mab3oos!

Tha2ir,
That's what I am getting at. we should always compare ourselves to the best not the average and certainly not the worst. I am sure Jordanians live the lives of royalty in comparison to some sub-Saharan countries. But, we are still a developing country that disregards its potentials.

hahaha you suck i hate jordanians that talk about their own land like this WOW i guess you lived in the states to long you became americanized WOW shame go back to the states.

Ok, i agree that Jordan is a tiny country, but poor because of land and natural resources no i dont agree.
Jordan suffers corruption which leads to "stinky" poverty, insane taxes and social problems.
Lets start talking about "Oil Shale" found large quantities, that support Jordan economy for "700 yeas" as "SHELL" oil and gas company announced, then ask yourself, why we live in povertty. Second point i would like to talk about, water resources, i agree Jordan suffers from sarce of water, but winter provide millions of gallons, brakish water and Jordan can provide water from Aqaba coast like other Arabian Gulf countries which suffer more lack of water more than Jordan in nature. Third, agriculture is one of the best natural resources in Jordan because the country located on the fertile cresent, which if we truly farm can feed the whole Arab World!!, also can extract biofuel!! so, we can solve food and energy dilemma. Regard to what i said before, i would like to add another point..... Jordan have alot of metals, salts and minerals like Potash, Iron , Phosphate, "Gold"..etc.), so one of the articls i read about corruption in Jordan, a Canadian Bussines man bought from the goverment 1 KM from dead sea coast, his profits in one year was 1000,000,000 USD and that was on 2008, so imagine how much money the country and the citizens lost from this act. Also, a survey did had released that minirals in dead sea coast provide Jordan about 40,000,000,000 JD. So,you cant blame the country or land , you must blame yourself for corruption in Jordan, most of Jordanians want to sitt or sleep and want money to fall like rain as GCC citizens do, first you need to have your respect from your goverment and fight corruption then you can talk about wealth standards of a country and its stinky or not.
Thanks For Reading

Jordan sucks in certain ways, i don’t know why Jordanians are proud of themselves and their ARMY ? ha? And their KING as well who lives on their taxes. The country has nothing NOTHING to offer to its citizens but taxes , customs and high prices and apart from that bunch of stupid laws
I left Jordan 10 years ago and If my parents are not living in Jordan i will never ever go there.

I married a jordanian. They are tight, violent, abusive dogs. Pride? What the hell are you proud of? If your country was so great then stay in it and stop polluting other nations that don't want your rubbish. I hate jordanians more than anything on earth. I always will.

Anonymous said...

They're men are a bunch of ugly losers who marry out to make their lives better When it gets better they leave their wives and children. Marry your own kind. Jordanian women clearly don't know how to raise real men, just abusive wimps. I make sure I tell everyone I know about what my husband, his family, bloody stupid cousins and village did to me. You are the rubbish of the middle east. I hope the palestinians take over Jordan

JOrdan surely is a backward ass country that doesnt deserves the place on earth. JOrdanians are so rude and racists. They don't even a bit respect toward others and they think they are the best in whole wide world. they claimed to love their country so much but they keep on polluting it. I have alot of arab 48 friends that are so grateful that their ancestors didnt came to this 3rd world country.

It is really bad. I don't really hate it. But IT IS REALLY REALLY BAD! Monopoly here. Stealing rights there. No kind of a sophisticated environment. People are kinda dim-witted and never really talk about much interesting stuff. There are some. Everyone's so like. Non-creative. It's just like. You do good in a particular subject or two. You'll have a great life. If not. You'll have the worst possible life. And those were people that I find going off the charts on what they can do. Creativity is not encouraged and barely anyone cares. You can't get what you want. I wish this'll change. But if people actually keep on this. We're going in a very very dark pit.

-Chicks are afraid to walk down the street as 1000 horny mother fuckers stare at them
-The people are friendly and helpful, but they are such motherfucking assholes
-buses are like comparable to Nepal, fucking risk my life taking them
-Streets dont have a pavement,
-worst music
-no manners
basically this is the Jordanian: no awareness of a fucking Public Code Such as: Dont smoke in somebody's face, dont fuckign stink (Take a shower or spray something) or back the fuck away from me, staring at a girl wont make her like you, especially if u a brown fucking piece of shit, with half a kilo of gel on ur gay as fucking hair, with ur buttons undone to bare your chest, cut your friggin fingernails, dont be so personal, if somebody swears at ur mother that doesnt mean you should lose your mind, and swear vengance, by calling on your tribsemen (10 people have already died in FUCKING universities beacuse of that in 2 months..) its a disaster, start with the schools. Jordan has potential, really shouldnt let it go down the fucking sewers.

I have meet a few people from jordan on the internet and the seem very well reserved. They speak multiple languages and seem educated. They are always asking how me and my family are. From my experience you can find good and bad people anywhere. I am glad to have spoken with these guys. Even if it is just on face book

Jordan is a place where you hear the worst curse words on a daily basis. Curses which you probably won't hear in your entire life even in Europe or America.
They think they're so smart there. Once when I was just in transit in Amman, with no interest or intention on spending time in Jordan, they decided I must not really be American and was really an IRAQI lol. They kept asking me if I was sure I wasn't. They claimed that my passport was stitched twice or something rediculous while the real one is stitched only once. I pointed out that I had returned to the US with this passport, so if it was a fake surely the Americans would see that.
They think they're so smart that they know American passports better than the US government.
Everything there is who you're related to or who you know.
And no, I'm not a Palestinian. I'm an American who loves the Middle East and speaks Arabic so I understand everything going on around me.
I used to be interested in living in Jordan but now I never even want to visit. I don't trust them.

I visited Amman for a week in June and I did not enjoy it. The city is extremely noisy and I didn't see any parks, no trees, no green landscape. Just buildings on the top of each other, the limestone they build with is beautiful but gets very dirty. Lack of water will make it impossible to power wash those buildings. Anywhere I went was stinking with Argeleh, and everybody smoked it. That was shocking to me, even women wearing hijab. The food was something else, if you're gluten free and don't like meat you will starve. I didn't enjoy anything in there, and I'm surprised to see one of the comments on this post that Jordan is better than most Arab countries except maybe for Tunisia. Well, whoever wrote that comment has no idea how to compare. When you compare a country, you compare nature, living standard, culture, etc. If I'm going to do that, I have to say North Africa rocks with nature, mountains and sea, infrastructure, amazing culture and they stay true and preserve their traditions, and the food is to die for. I wanted to like Jordan when I visited, but it had nothing to offer. I didn't interact much with people other than taxi drivers who were not friendly and smoked inside the car. When I politely asked a taxi driver if he could do without the cigarette during the trip because I have Azma, he stopped the car and asked me to leave!!!!!

Jordan is one of the only countries in their area that does not always get involved in war. Palestine, Israel, Syria, and Iraq have all been in recent wars, and many other middle eastern countries are extremely sexist (Like Saudi Arabia). For those who say they hate Jordanians might as well hate all of the middle east. The things you complain about are typical of the middle east (loud streets, dangerous roads) and you cant just single out Jordan like its some bad apple because you met some mean people. You cant judge A WHOLE COUNTRY on a couple of people. Its a small peaceful country that is independent from all the others surrounding them, and I know many Jordanian family's that have children who are over achievers that are very smart and get high paying jobs, like doctors or managers.

I agree in the comment above saying "For those who say they hate Jordanians might as well hate all of the middle east. The things you complain about are typical of the middle east (loud streets, dangerous roads) and you cant just single out Jordan like its some bad apple because you met some mean people." That is completely true, and Jordan is very peaceful.

Hatred towards Jordanians and Jordan just shows your ignorance... I am an American that lived in the middle east for 27 years as I taught in several American schools. Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Kuwait are all the places I've been to. Jordan is where I enjoyed it the most. Since Jordan is small, it's really easy to see the difference between the rich and poor neighborhoods. Jordan is the cleanest country I've been to in the whole middle east. What I realized from many comments and the guy that made this post is complete hate. From my experiences and many interactions I learned that Jordanians of Palestinian origin in specific hate Jordan because they simply lost their land while the Jordanians didn't escape or run away but rather fought any forces that tried to overtake them. The real Jordanians are always welcoming and grateful for their country and what it has done in the past years. Jordan was the first country to welcome palestinians fleeing from the Israeli war. Jordan was the first country to help Syrian refugees. Jordan is the 3rd on the list of countries that sent the most troops to help the United Nations in many tasks. Jordan is considered as the silicon valley of the Middle East. While Jordan is a new country when it comes down to the fact that it hasn't been recognized politically for many years, it still stands strong and continues to succeed while it has very limited natural resources. If you ask anyone in the middle east what resources Jordan has, they will all tell you "its people". So stop hating on a country that you claim you belong to because I doubt you being a real Jordanian, but rather a Palestinian Jordanian. Look at all the neighboring countries and how troubled they are.. Is Jordan troubled? No. Why? Because even with the many haters and jealousy people that can't say they're real Jordanians but rather Palestinian-Jordanians hate the government and its effort to survive the Arab spring, Jordanians and the government still seek power and success which burns you in Jealousy Mr. Palestinian-Jordanian

Hmm I have lived in Jordan for almost 10 yrs off and on and it has its ups and downs . Pollution is a disaster, traffic can be chaotic due to unorganization, society can be close-minded depending on where u live, but u need to find ur own type to connect with. I don't think think there's any perfect place in the world as we r not at peace in life until we r under the ground. Jordan is a developing country, meaning that basically in time it will have everything, as a foreigner, I believe it has progressed since the time I first arrived and it will continue advancing rather than regressing. On the economical side, if u don't have your own business in Jordan and are not successful, working as an employee is a disadvantage, being educated is important, but doesn't guarantee highly paid salaries,as it does in the West, despite the fact that being educated is so valued here, as well as encouraged. Less water shortages have happened recently, fewer electric shortages will be expected in Jordan and I don't see it getting worse in the future.

Well I have been living in Amman for 5 years, only because I married a Jordanian guy. The place is a rat hole. Dirty smashed up trash cans all over the streets that most people don't even bother to use (they just throw bags of rotting trash) on the streets, The roads are a disgrace with drivers having no manners. You see idiots driving with little kids on their knees, a cig in their hand whilst talking or texting on their cell phones. COPS do nothing. next time you go to a take away, have a walk around the back of the building where you will see bags of piled up rotting trash and rats all over, There are roaming all over the place or dead on the roads, wild dogs roaming round in packs and to top it all off many kids (and adults) think it is fun to be sadistic to all animals by cutting their ears, noses and limbs off or setting the poor animals on fire and they think it's cool. Pollution is terrible and although there is thousands of empty properties, they just keep on building more. Land is scarce so they just build home upon home (whatever for?) most Jordanians are trying to get the hell out. The people are not friendly like so many people claim, they just stand there staring. The men think they are gods gift to all women and the women are just lazy, hiring young maids as slaves to do all the housework, shopping, raise the kids and cook, yet the Government allows this to go on. Many slaves/maids are terribly abused and forced to live in squalid conditions. All in all Jordan is a dirty, polluted, sadistic ignorant nation full of filth shithole. Disagree with me all you like but I'm a realist. The country is a waste.

Anonymous said...

Not everyone there is like that. The guy you married seems awful but a good chunk of the population is open minded. And who said all of us are proud of our country? I for one hate the way it's ruled and the corruption the government suffers from. Still no politicians have had the balls to change anything. So look into the rest of the country before talking about it and its people as a whole.

You find bad cities everywhere you go to. I believe you live in some crappy town because I've been living in Amman(the capital) for over 7 years and I find it to be an amazing and interesting city. Amman is really fun at day and night and there are many things to do there. I honestly loved the ammani lifestyle more than anything.. I would definitely say you lived in the wrong area of Jordan... Amman is amazing and so is Irbid, and Jarash.. Otherwise, it sucks

Anonymous said...

Today I came back to Jordan from the Palestinian border. Two feuding families nearby started rioting and busted our car. That's how I was greeted back into Jordan. I can't find anything good about this place. I have worked here and lived here and most ppl have double standards. The country does stink. It's people are arrogant and rude. I don't get it. Other Arab countries are not this bad, and most of us used to the more pleasant countries have a hard time here. Jordanians are known wide and far throughout the Middle East as cheap assholes with no shame

Anonymous said...

I wish I wasn't born in this stupid country "jordan" everything is fucked up here

Unknown said...

I agree so much with this. Aqaba sucks worse than Amman, when they run out of a certain item, they don't get it back, they literally just are a waste disposal for Amman, if it wasn't for the red sea, it'd be just as bad as Ma'an or something, and everybody is a beggar here, even when they have enough money to buy groceries and call a taxi, they CONSTANTLY beg for money

Melissa Lucky Space said...

Amman is a disgusting smelly place which smells like shit. the sewer and water quality is terrible. There is some chemical in the water which makes your hair fall out. The employers here are the most unprofessional evil people I have met. The are nice at first and then try to destroy you. It is something like living in a horror movie living in jordan. There are also extremist and terrorist here. The arab women are rude a hell. I have not met one nice or friendly women to become friends with here. They are stuck up and pretend they are rich but, are poor. F jordan. There are double standards as men can have wives and girlfriends and the women can do nothing! There are little to no jobs here for women. King abdullah pretends to be friends with my us president obama. He is a fool by taxing the citizens 16 percent while only giving a salary of 500 usd a month at the most. While living in a decent area the apartments cost 500 usd. This is the most corrupt fucked up country I ever visited besides palestine and the entire middle east is disgusting!

Melissa Lucky Space said...

The native Jordanians do NOTHING to change the system but, complain and ask foreigners for money. They are known to target foreign women and beg for money like they are so poor but, are too lazy to work hard. The government here are thieves. It reminds me a lot of Palestine but, worse. How greedy the people here are just want to TAKE, TAKE TAKE AND GIVE NOTHING IN RETURN.

Unknown said...

@Melissa Lucky Space Very true, everyone in Aqaba constantly begs, I've personally witness a woman come over, bang on the window, walk off, buy groceries, and call a taxi, again, right after she played the "Help me I'm poor" card. I can't wait until I'm back in America

Unknown said...

Oh, and one other thing. Apparently people PURPOSELY crash into rental cars here, because the rental car people have to pay for the "Rental drivers" mistake. They will stop at nothing to get as much money as they can, even at other peoples expense!

Anonymous said...

Fuck Jordanians!
They like to talk about other people behind their back.
This is very very true.

While it's an undeniable fact that Jordan has its low points, overall I find it to be a lovely country with its own unique charm. I personally love those "dirty and dangerous" streets everyone seems to be complaining about. I do agree that the men have trouble keeping their ogling to a minimum; it's definitely disrespectful but that's something prevalent throughout the entire Middle East and the Arab world i general. My boyfriend is a Jordanian from Jarash and I wouldn't change anything.

Anonymous said...

LOL, its an undeniable fact that Jordan has alot of problems. But what the actual fuck is this comment section? It seems to me as if the comments belong to the same guy talking to himself. I feel that this comment section describes Saudi Arabia. I don't know what shithole you are describing but it definitely isn't Jordan. PS: Even the shittiest parts of Jordan are not as bad as the nicest description here.

True. I visited Jordan last year. Rats, roaches, and stray cats everywhere. Litter everywhere. No seatbelts, people would cut them out of the cars. There were a small amount of trees in Irbid and Jarash, however none in Amman or Zarqa. I would not recommend visiting Jordan.

Jordan stinks no fuckin jobs in this country, you live in shity environment. Living conditions in this country is horrible, and the people have no dignity of respect when you drive with a bunch of drunkyards with small narrowed streets. However I have experienced the wages are high in this country and expensive , and the amount of salary they pay about 150 Jd, thats nothing duh.... I mean you would probably live by yourself on this type of wage, you can't even afford rent it's fucked up.

Jordan is awful. No jobs, poverty, dark age villager mentality. Why do you think they all come to the US? I had the misfortune of living there. You will find some nice people there, mostly trying like anything for a visa to leave the wasteland it is. It could be nice if it weren't buried in mountains of trash and tire fires. Also if people did something besides munch on sunflower seeds and drink tea.

Unknown said...

jordan needs lots of improvement on its habitats, agriculture, traffic rules, honesty and many more. I think Jordan itself is a nice country, but what makes it bad is the people who live in it to be honest. When I visited Jordan I talked to Jordanian people for advice about buying a CD player and they say that they have their products made in the US. At a glace when I looked at the product it was made in China, I was surprised about how often people tend to lie in this country I don't trust them anymore even if have an appointment in meeting someone and then he promise you he'll come then he breakes his promise..."wow" too many lies you'll encounter. The environment is horrible, this can effect on global warming and cause pollution, its because of the garbage and the cars that are unclean it gives smoke while drives driving it. Jordan is small and poor too and rely on other countries that sustains them and supports them for their living. People are rude here as well as women and are proud of themselves they think they're smart and have resources, they feel pity about themselves without showing it. I agree no jobs in this country, you aren't treated equally like everyone else it's like your isolated and lost, they don't hire other nationalities other than Jordanians it's because their country is poor and needs its people to benefit. In my opinion Jordan is for tourism, people around the world come for vacation to explore histories about Jordan and to go to the Dead Sea and other places, however I do not recommend living in Jordan ever.

Jordan is an Islamic shithole. Dont even bother visiting it or the middle east in general accept for few countries like isreal cyprus and the uae. as the Jordanian with a Palestinian decent the main problem with most of the middle eastern countries is the nonsecular government and following of a backward culture(killing gays,no alcohol, sexism, etc). Thanks for my iq, which is high enough to understand this bullshit. the only solution for this shithole the middle east to transform to an actual developing countries and stop relying on aids from developed countries in the west is to adapt the progressive modern lifestyle and stop the pointless hate towards the west and Jews. if they end up keeping the medieval way of life all i hope is for isreal to invade us and rule over us.(from a Palestinian)

I hate them and the us needs to stop all funding to these worthless bastards. I began to hate these people. I see philpino women as slaves for th we ugly Jordanian women and it is really backwards. They only pay them maybe 200 dollars a month to raise the children? Disgusting and the smoke I can’t breathe and there is nothing to do but smoke Shesha.

Also the service here is bad and they laugh at you if you don’t speak Arabic. Very unprofessional and rude and they assume you are from Russia if
You are not Arabic. Thya most ignorant idiots I have seen in my
Life and uneducated. 80
Percent do not speak English and beware of the African migrants in Jordan as they are the robbers and can steal your
Bag. Women can not be alone here and if you are men are worthless and take advantage. It was bad before but now it is just dangerous and more dangerous.
